General George Washington, the commander of the Continental Army, appointed Ezekiel Cheever to provide ordnance support to army in July 1775. Until 1779, all the armies had Ordnance personnel moving with them. They were civilians and Soldiers, served as conductors for maintenance ammunition wagon and arms. Each conductor led five to six armorers who repaired small arms. In 1776, Board of War and Ordnance was created. In 1777, the first Ordnance facilities were established at Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and the first arsenal and armory operations at Springfield, Massachusetts. Other arsenals and armories were also established at Harpers Ferry, Philadelphia, and Watertown. On May 14, 1812, the Ordnance Department was organized by Congress. The Ordnance Department was responsibility for arms and ammunition production, acquisition, distribution, and storage for the war. The branch colors are crimson and yellow. At first, the Ordnance Corps had a red trail, like Artillery. In 1851, Crimson was assigned to the Ordnance Corps. Then in 1902, it was changed to black and scarlet color. Then finally, in 1921, crimson and yellow were assigned to the Ordnance Corps again. The Act of May 14, 1812, recognized the Ordnance Corps. In 1936, the army Institute of Heraldry redesigned and standardized version of the Shell and Flame. Redesigned Shell and Flame remains the current version.

Becoming a Better Reader Essay -- Education Reading Academics

Reading is believed by some academia to be the most important activity that a student could do to go ahead in academic pursuit. Some research claimed that many people take reading for granted in their developmental stage. Due to this fact, few learners cannot read properly because they claim they do not enjoy reading. In my observation, not only is effective reading important but to read with comprehension (recall of read text) and for pleasure. The constant engagement with reading for pleasure might sensitize the desire to read. Controlled studies for people with specific learning disabilities recommend SQ4R reading strategy to support people to learn how to read. SQ4R could be considered as a versatile literacy strategy that engrosses students in the processing of information prior to reading, during reading and after reading. It could be used in all subject areas that consider content materials critically. This applies to all types of texts and cut across all sources of information. SQ4R might lead to flexible reading pattern. Flexibility in reading is extremely very important. It is crucial to examine flexible reading as, reading different types of materials. Materials like articles, novel, periodic, journals, and newspapers could build different strategies and approach that would be adapted to different reading styles. SQ4R method is accepted to have the propensity to improve comprehension and academic grades. It could also help student’s make meaning from text in the following ways. Using the SQ 4R strategies prior to reading – will helps to preview texts and establish the reading purpose. The more refine the purpose of investigation is the better the depth of research. SQ4R strategies while reading – help to monitor and ... ...lay the importance of SQ4R. They may either use it unconsciously and claimed they don’t use it. The good thing about the SQ4R reading method is that it gives a better understanding of academic material. It also helps to improve memory. A student is properly geared to focus on the specific area of research by using the Q-question strategy. The R which stand for reflect/relate helps to bridge the gap of old and new information in the memory. A student will always have an accurate fact and current in line with the given area of reasoning. In the end reading will encourage students to read material for both academic reason and for pleasure. Bibliography Forsyth, K. H. (2000). The Effect of self-Reference on learning and Retention. This is implemented best with the use of the thriving mobile technology where authorized people can receive notices in their mobile phones via Short Message Service (SMS), email or notifications on their social network accounts. However, a great number of organizations have not yet realized this application of technology and are still working on traditional platforms such as posters, messengers etc. This is largely because of lack of a platform that meets the needs of both organizations as well as individuals with regard to communication of notices. Also, in most of these organizations, the notice board system(s) has had various problems such as: congestion of outdated information such that one cannot locate useful information easily; some notices are plucked down/removed before every intended person has had a chance to read them etc. This project aims at offering a solution to overcome the current desperate approaches through developing an electronic notice board system to help organizations such as Mom university communicate their notices effectively. Internship in Network Security Essay - 1698 Words

During my internship I worked in the Network Security Operations Center (NSOC), which is in charge of the network stability of the network. NSOC’s focus is to ensure the integrity of MCI’s network and systems as well as the protection of its strategic and intellectual assets through an ongoing concerted program of prevention, detection, investigation and response to fraud and abuse. There is also a team that was more involved with inside of NSOC which is called the Incidence Response Operations Center (IROC). These sensors examine packets of data and determine†¦show more content†¦Once a resolution is completed it is added to the knowledge base for future reference. During my first project I had the most challenging experiences such as just getting use to the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) which is very detailed database were all of the alarms are being logged in. So through the programs is where all of the procedures start so if you do not understand the program there is no beginning. Exploring the IDS I found different ways to toggle through and find the information that is required to get the job done. Learning how to spot viruses and Trojans were not the only genre that the program could detect. It also detected peer to peer sharing such as Napster, Limewire, Bearshare, etc†¦and different employee handbook computer violations. I was involved in investigating over thirty different employees who were doing mp3 file sharing. During the investigating I instructed them that they were violating the handbook and instructed them to uninstall the program immediately. If this was not there first time then the investigation would escalate to Hum an Resource for further disciplinary action to taken against the employee. The IDS is used for far more than just peer to peer sharing but it informs the IROC team whether someone is chatting or sending instant messages across the network that was not in the corporate image of the computer.
